We've stayed in a number of bases around Provence over the years and decided on Aix-en-Provence last year. I recommend it. A good base, although we did have a car. It is a good place to walk around taking in the history and the atmosphere. 1. Visit the center of Aix-en-Provence and go shopping. Aix really reminds me of Paris. But then with sunnier colors (think palm trees, flowers and the pastel shades of the houses).
