Quest markers can are best seen when looking at the map. They are "exclamation mark" and "dot with circle", color is yellow. Blue marks are side quests. When you find it, you can move the cursor over the marker and it will snap on to location of the mark. Press "X" to set your own, way more visible mark on it. I have just started on the south of the island and none of my weapons, knife or grenades will equip.
